Each spring we begin the process of building class lists for the following school year. At Marvista Elementary, we believe that this important process needs to be done using a specific protocol that allows us to balance classes according to a set of criteria that creates the optimal teaching and learning environment for every child in our community.
Each classroom is a small community. We support the philosophy that classrooms need to be representative of the various social, academic, and physical needs of students. Our commitment to our students and staff related to student placement are:
- Classes will be balanced by academic abilities and achievements
- Class size will be balanced according to other considerations such as social/emotional development
- Classes will be balanced by gender across a grade level
- Class size will be balanced across grade levels
Staff members have been asked to refrain from discussions with parents regarding placement with a specific teacher for significant reasons. First, it is possible that a specific teacher will not be teaching at the grade level expected. Staffing is determined by enrollment levels across the entire district, which may mean that we gain or lose a teacher anytime up to the start of the school year. Second, experience has taught us that a parents input is most valuable when it focuses on the unique needs of a child rather than a parents perception of a particular teacher. Your understanding and cooperation will be appreciated.

All forms must be returned to me directly via email by THIS FRIDAY May 8, 2020 in order to be considered.
