Marvista Family Message for Nov. 12

Marvista Family Message for Nov. 12

Greetings Marvista Families,

Student Led Conferences are an annual tradition that provides families a wonderful opportunity to be involved in conversations about their child’s learning.  Each time we venture into this time of year, I find myself reflecting on how important the partnership is between the parent, the student, and the school.

At the conference, your child and your child’s teacher will be discussing individual strengths as well as areas of needed growth.  It is our goal that these conversations will be collaborative and will be focused solely on how we can all work together to support your child. You can expect your child and your child’s teacher to have information to share with you, as well as some questions for you.  To deepen the conversation, you may consider asking some of your own questions.  Some ideas include:

Possible Questions for your Child’s Teacher

  1. What would you say are my child’s strengths?
  2. What are the biggest opportunities for improvement?
  3. What examples can you show me of my child's work?
  4. Do you have suggestions for things we can do at home to supplement classroom learning?
  5. How can I help you in the classroom?

Possible Questions for your Child

  1. What made you decide to share this piece with me?
  2. How did you feel as you read your guided reading book out loud?
  3. How might I better support you at home as a reader?
  4. What is the hardest part about the writing process for you?  Why do you think so?
  5. How do you feel when you are asked to explain your math thinking?
  6. What do you think about where you sit?
  7. What makes you most excited about coming to school?

Thank you for always partnering with us.  Our promise is to know your child by name, strength, and need.  Taking the time to participate in this collaborative conversation helps us to achieve our promise. It really takes the entire Marvista community to help our students to be successful.  If you have any questions, you are always welcome to call our main office at 206-631-4200.  Our team will work to connect you with the appropriate support staff.

Sincerely,
Maggie Heater
