Marvista Family Message for January 13

Marvista Family Message for January 13

Greetings Marvista Families,

I have the best job! Each day I get to observe our students engaged in rigorous learning experiences.  During my rounds this week, I was pleased to see students in Ms. Chapman’s room engaged in small group reading lessons, focused specifically on the role a suffix plays in the meaning of a word. It was fun to see the students play around with word endings to make sense of the concept. Ms. Chapman served as the facilitator of this learning, guiding her students through trial and error until they figured it out.  Students engaged in learning tasks that challenge thinking is exactly what we love to see at Marvista!

Each day, our teachers have only 335 minutes to teach our students, this is after removing our lunch and recess times.  Our teachers do not waste a single moment of those 335 minutes, intentionally packing each with important lessons on reading writing, math, social and emotional development, art, music, PE, library, social studies, and science.  Because we have such little time, we need your help in getting our students here and on time to school each day.

Our school day begins at 9:15 a.m.  This is when attendance is taken, and important learning begins.  Our teachers pick up students from the blacktop 9:10 a.m., allowing 5 minutes to get unpacked and organized.  Our student arrival time each day is between 8:55 a.m. and 9:10 a.m.

  • 8:55-9:10 a.m. Morning arrival window and breakfast in the cafeteria
  • 9:10 a.m. First bell rings and students enter the building
  • 9:15 a.m. School Day begins

Thank you for always partnering with us and for working hard to make sure your child arrives to school by 9:10 a.m. each day. It really takes the entire Marvista community to help our students to be successful.  If you have any questions, you are always welcome to call our main office at 206-631-4200.  Our team will work to connect you with the appropriate support staff.

Sincerely,

Maggie Heater
